Numerical
analysis is based on computer simulations to model rockfall dynamics, assess
terrain, and optimize protective structure design. It aids in risk assessment
and supports decision-making for effective protection measures.
Geo Environmental Solutions
(GES) is a specialised company in the Geotechnical and Environmental sector. We
are equipped with the latest technologies and expert engineers to tackle the
unlike situations in an efficient and smart way. Geo Environmental Solutions
strategy is to provide solutions for geotechnical issues while protecting the
environment. Our first objective is to plan the impact of each of our projects
on the environment. The Company provides the solutions ranging from project
initiation and feasibility, planning, environment and sustainability
management, privatization and project advisory, detailed design tendering,
project management and construction supervision, commissioning and finally to
operation and maintenance.
CHALLENGES
To determine the Global
Slope Stability of the slope with dynamic load caused by the train movement at
the private siding in Hissaburu (Barbil) served by Barajamda Station. The
section falls under South Eastern Railway Zone. The stretch lies along the
trackside in between Barajamda Railway Station to Barbil Railway Station in
Jharkhand, India.

Surface of Slope
Boulders of size > 1m3
• The Site is located
between Pole No. 389/27 to 389/29.
• The geology of the site
consists of Banded Iron formation with Precambrian greenstone belts.
• Strata at site contains
soil/rock mixture with vegetation cover.
• The slope section majorly
consists of broken rock mass overlain by Soil and Boulder.
• For the analysis Rock
Mass has been considered in bottom layer and soil in upper layer of
approximately 2m.
ANALYSIS
• After interpreting the
site data and geological parameters, and then Numerical Analysis was carried
out to analyse the stability condition.
• According to a geological
study, the Geological Strength Index (GSI) at the site varies from 10 to 30.
• A 25T DFC load was taken
into account during the study.
• The dynamic load due to
movement of train was calculated based on the guidelines of RDSO/2018/GE:
IRS-0004 (D).
RESULTS
Static
Stability Analysis Result
The stability analysis
result for both the cross-section yielded a critical SRF of 3.69 and 4.28 which
is more than the considered safe critical SRF of 1.5. Hence, Slope is
considered to be safe
CONCLUSION
The stability investigation
was carried out by Geo Environmental Solutions on two typical crosssections
along the stretch. Based on the findings from the Numerical Analysis, the slope
in the considered area is found to be stable. However, to avoid gully erosion
and surface erosion risks, it is recommended to regularly clean and maintain
the drain at the top to prevent excessive runoff from flowing over the slope.
