As per the Paris agreement Climate Change Convention 2016, around 55 giga-tons of carbon dioxide will have been produced by 2030 which has to be brought down to net zero till the year 2050. This can be made possible if there is an average reduction of 7 to 8 percent of carbon dioxide equivalent annually. Moreover, as per the Agreement; the global temperature rise this century has to be kept within 2 degree Celsius to avoid any adverse natural calamities. This is only possible if we employ sustainable practices against the traditional ones from macro to micro levels in various sectors like - Transportation, Infrastructure, Water Resource management etc.
Several measures have already been adopted for improving the deteriorated condition of the environment. But a lot requires be doing rigorously and put into execution. Engineering methodologies need to be implemented so as to improve the environmental quality on a broader perspective. One such area ignored by a majority of infrastructure and industrial sectors is the development of green cover and ecological balance by protection of barren slopes which eventually undergo erosion and become unstable.

Either the lack of vegetative cover from the slopes or the instability of slope leads to its sliding. Conventionally methods involve use of stone pitching and concreting to protect such slopes, in–turn harming the environment by stone quarrying. There is an opportunity to increase carbon sequestration here, by using Bio engineering techniques.
Bio-engineering methods are preferred over these conventional methods due to its low cost and lesser maintenance requirement. This incorporates stabilizing the slope by applying a suitable blanket cover to prevent the future sliding and further adding vegetation to it so that it acts as a carbon sink. The huge amount of vegetation that grows enables large amounts of carbon sequestration.
One such product is the Geogreen blanket® developed by Sri Venkateshwara Fibre Udyog Private Limited; Bengaluru who have got a strong and excellent team of R and D department and are the pioneers in making coconut fibre husk based products since last thirty five years. Geogreen blanket? is eco-friendly as it is made from naturally available biodegradable coconut fibres. The product is bio-degradable in nature, it has high amount of lignin content which makes it resistant to insects, molds and rots. Its main merit is that it can retain moisture for a long period of time; it helps in the growth of vegetation thereby making these barren slopes beautiful. Being cost effective and self-reliant, it is strong enough to be used in the most severe climatic conditions and rainfall. It has proved to work successfully in all the areas from highest rainfall zones to the driest climatic conditions. It can be used for slopes which are flatter than 30 degrees and steeper up to 80 degrees.

The Geogreen blanket® is a natural geo-composite self-sufficient in performing technical functions of fluid transmission, filtration, separation, reinforcement and protection. It can be modified so as to meet the site conditions and suitable requirements. It is not only easy to install but can be installed with a limited number of unskilled labour and conventional tools. It's ease of installation makes it very much suitable for inaccessible areas too.
Geogreen blanket® possesses the exclusive property of providing suitable strength over time as the roots grow further entangling with each other thereby; increasing its structural stability. Especially in case of those areas which have less access, this method proves to be compatible enough under all circumstances. The product is a versatile one and has got very wide areas of

application potentials and is one of the most evolving methodologies of the future.
Till now Sri Venkateshwara Fibre Udyog Private Limited has been able to sequester a huge amount of carbon dioxide and produce a carbon sink of around 21.53 tonnes per hectare by the technique of using Geogreen blanket® .A number of infrastructure companies and corporates have already contributed towards preserving the ecosystem by adopting this methodology. Hence, it is highly recommended to use this eco-friendly and economical technique and play our part in conserving the nature in the long run.
