Jindal Stainless unveils its first Stainless Steel fabrication unit in Mumbai
• Built
with an initial investment of approximately INR 125 crore, the unit will
fabricate critical components, including bridge girders among others,
supporting world-class infrastructure development in India
• In
the first phase, the unit is expected to reach a fabrication capacity of 18,000
tonnes per annum by FY26–27
Jindal
Stainless, India’s largest stainless steel manufacturer, through its wholly
owned subsidiary Jindal Stainless Steelway Limited (JSSL), has launched its first
stainless steel fabrication unit at Washivali, Patalganga, in Mumbai. This step
is aimed at setting new benchmarks in integrated infrastructure excellence. The
4 lakh square ft. facility will cater to the needs of bridge sector and focus
on fabricating, among other critical components, various types of girders. The
unit was inaugurated by Jindal Stainless, CEO & CFO, Mr Tarun Khulbe, in
the presence of other members of the company’s senior leadership.
Developed
with an initial investment of approximately ₹125 crore, this facility marks a
strategic leap for the company, strengthening its position as both a leading
supplier of stainless steel material and a provider of end-to-end fabrication
solutions for India’s rapidly growing infrastructure sector. By FY26-27, the
unit is expected to achieve an annual fabrication capacity of 18,000 tonnes, up
from an estimated 4,000 tonnes in the current financial year, to meet the
growing demand for sustainable, high-quality bridge infrastructure. Beyond
boosting capacity, the unit will directly create over 250 jobs and benefit 150+
families indirectly, while also serving as a centre of excellence for skill
development, equipping India’s workforce for the infrastructure of tomorrow.
Commenting
on the development, Jindal Stainless, Managing Director, Mr Abhyuday Jindal,
said: “This fabrication unit represents another step in our efforts to provide
integrated solutions for customers. Bridges are critical connectors, linking
people, businesses, and economic activity across the nation. With this unit,
our aim is to implement stronger end-to-end quality management, ensuring that
these vital structures are built to the highest standards and supporting
India’s broader infrastructure growth.”
Speaking
at the launch ceremony, Jindal Stainless, CEO & CFO, Mr Tarun Khulbe said,
“Developing a trained fabricator ecosystem has long been a challenge in fully
translating the excellence of sustainable stainless steel material into
reliable, high-quality fabrications. With the launch of this facility, we are
bridging that gap, by bringing together material excellence, skilled
fabrication, and streamlined processes to deliver timely and superior
infrastructure solutions.”
Jindal
Stainless has long been a trusted partner in supplying stainless steel for some
of the nation’s landmark infrastructure projects. Unlike carbon steel, which is
prone to corrosion and has been linked to structural failures in urban bridges,
stainless steel provides a lifespan of over 100 years with minimal maintenance,
offering safer, corrosion-free, and more sustainable solutions. The launch of
this pioneering fabrication unit builds further on this commitment. It marks a
decisive step forward for the company, which, in addition to producing
high-quality stainless steel, will now also directly fabricate critical bridge
components–such as girders, arches, nuts and bolts, handles, and other
structural parts– offering end-to-end services to infrastructure developers.
The
company plans future expansion of the fabrication facility to other regions in
India. Aligned with Jindal Stainless’ ESG goals, the Mumbai fabrication unit
will also be solar-power enabled in its next phase, further enhancing
sustainability.
