Jindal Stainless reinforces its commitment to fight against corrosion by supporting CORTEM 2025
Jindal Stainless Limited
(JSL), India’s largest stainless steel manufacturer, played a key role in the
success of the second edition of the International Summit on Corrosion
Technology & Management (CORTEM) 2025. CORTEM, an event organised by the
Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), brought together industry experts,
thought leaders, and policymakers to address the pressing challenge of
corrosion across sectors critical to India’s infrastructure and industrial
development.
As
a co-chair of CII’s Corrosion Management Division (CMD), Managing Director,
Jindal Stainless, Mr Abhyuday Jindal, said: “Corrosion remains a
significant challenge to India’s industrial growth, resulting in considerable
economic losses and undermining public safety. Studies estimate that corrosion
costs the economy nearly 4% of its GDP annually; for India, this translates to
a loss of INR 13.2 lakh crore every year. At Jindal Stainless, we remain
committed to driving innovation, raising awareness, and promoting sustainable
corrosion management practices to help build a corrosion-free nation. Our focus
lies in delivering corrosion-resistant stainless steel solutions across diverse
applications while working collaboratively with industry leaders, academia and
policymakers to develop long-term strategies for corrosion control and
infrastructure resilience.”
CORTEM is part of CII’s
National Mission on War against Corrosion launched in 2023. The summit featured
a distinguished lineup of speakers including Dr U Kamachi Mudali, Chairman,
CII, Corrosion Management Division, and Vice Chancellor, Homi Bhabha National
Institute; Dr Amir Eliezer, Former Chair, AMPP, USA; Rear Admiral G K Harish,
AVSM VSM (Retired), Head – Ship Building Business, Larsen & Toubro; Mr
Vijay Sharma, Director, Jindal Stainless; Mr Amish B Jani, Vice President,
Reliance Industries Ltd among others. The event covered a wide array of topics,
including recent advancements in national and international regulations and
policy frameworks for corrosion control; the critical role of corrosion
management in renewable energy and hydrogen sectors; the impact of emerging
technologies such as IoT, AI, and predictive analytics in revolutionizing
corrosion monitoring and management among others.
As per studies, corrosion
erodes about 4% of economy every year, translating to over USD 4 trillion
globally. In India, the economic impact of corrosion is equally alarming, with
annual losses estimated at INR 13.2 lakh crore. These losses primarily arise
from corrosion-related damage to infrastructure, increased maintenance costs,
and risks to public safety, affecting sectors such as transportation,
utilities, and manufacturing.
Jindal Stainless has been
proactive in addressing the challenge of corrosion, whether in infrastructure
or other economic sectors. The company reaffirmed its commitment to combat
corrosion by entering into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the CII in
2023. Through sustained efforts, the
company is at the forefront of driving positive change in corrosion management,
leveraging its expertise in stainless steel to offer solutions that not only
enhance infrastructure resilience but also contribute to a more sustainable
future.
