At the International
Methanol Seminar, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari emphasized the urgent need to
curb pollution and reduce India’s heavy fossil fuel import costs of ₹22 lakh
crore. He advocated for biofuels like methanol, ethanol, and bio-CNG to enhance
energy independence and benefit farmers. Highlighting waste-to-energy projects,
Gadkari discussed using used tyre powder and plastic in road construction,
reducing bitumen imports. He also mentioned ongoing bio-CNG initiatives, with
475 projects in development and over 40 already operational in states like
Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Karnataka.
