22 Mineral Blocks Auctioned in Two Months: Government
The government aims to sell 22 mineral blocks in November and December. Six iron ore blocks, three each of limestone, gold, bauxite, copper, phosphorite, and glauconite, will be auctioned, according to the mines ministry.
September saw the invitation for block bids. Maharashtra's mines will be auctioned next month, while UP and Goa's will be in December.
Since auctioning mineral
blocks started, 180 have been sold. In 2015-16, the government auctioned
mineral blocks. Ministry plans to sell 500 mines by 2024. The Centre aims to
enhance the mining sector's GDP contribution to 5% from 2.5%.
