The GST Road Widening Project In Chennai Will Is Finished By The End Of May.
In May of 2023, construction on an eight-lane expansion of the Grand Southern Trunk Road (GST Road) in Chennai between Guduvanchery and Chettipunniyam is expected to be finished. A section between Tambaram and Guduvanchery has already been enlarged.
Sources from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), responsible for the road, claim that around half of the work has been finished. The NHAI is footing the tab for the Rs 42.14 billion expenses incurred by the State Highways Department's National Highways division to complete the project.
The State Highways Department reported that of the five gaps on the road, two had been killed, and another was almost there. The next 13.5 kilometres have varying states of completion.
"A lack of aggregate material required for road formation, a lack of labour, constant traffic, the necessity to transfer utilities, and waterlogging on the right side of the road owing to rain", an engineer working on the project stated.
After the road was widened, locals complained that it had become too dangerous for pedestrians and automobiles to cross.
