The Union Ministry of Environment and Forest has approved the construction of a 20-km four-lane stretch and a 32-km stretch in Kangra district, as part of Phase-II of the Pathankot-Mandi highway project. The clearance resolves the delay caused by the absence of forest clearance, allowing for timely completion. The project, worth Rs 8,000 crore, aims to connect Pathankot to Leh, Ladakh, and other forward areas, benefiting defense requirements. The travel distance between Pathankot and Mandi will be reduced from 219 km to 171 km upon project completion, benefiting strategic connectivity.
