Road Ministry Proposes ₹22 Lakh Cr Plan
The Road Transport and Highways Ministry has proposed a ₹22 lakh crore investment plan for developing 30,600 km of highways by 2031-32. This ambitious initiative includes constructing 18,000 km of expressways, easing congestion on 4,000 km of national highways near cities, and enhancing strategic and international road connectivity. Approximately 35% of the funding will be sourced from the private sector. The ministry has also requested a 10% annual increase in budget allocation for project execution, following an interim budget allocation of ₹2,78,000 crore, marking a 2.7% rise from the previous fiscal year.
