The 346-km coastal highway project in Odisha has received environmental clearance for Package 3, which stretches from Kakatpur to Erasama. The overall project, divided into Rameshwar to Ratanpur (176 km) and Ratanpur to Digha (170 km), faced opposition due to its revised alignment. The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) had called for bids for the four-lane road construction in three packages, but tenders were canceled before the August 10 deadline. Originally proposed from Gopalpur to Digha, passing through ecologically sensitive areas, the project was shortened to 346 km to avoid these areas.
