According to Roads Secretary Giridhar Aramane, there is an urgent need to improve the low quality of highway construction and maintenance in the nation. Aramane, speaking at the National Conference on Technology and Road Operation, said that he has lately ordered an investigation into the building of the portion of NH-8 in Gujarat extending from Shamlaji to Mota-Chiloda. In addition, he emphasised the bad state of the roads in Himachal Pradesh, where accidents are common.

Aramane criticised developers harshly, noting that even fundamental technologies such as employing bitumen with optimal composition are not being followed.

Taking a tough stance against poor quality control in highway construction, he stated: "Even the largest companies in the construction business use extremely sloppy quality control practises. The administration is now irritated by this type of approach. The contractors, developers, and engineers who certify these constructions will thus be punished."
