The National Board for Wildlife (NBWL) has granted approval for the
construction of the Bengaluru-Chennai expressway's second phase, requiring an
investment of Rs 16,000 crore. The project will reduce travel time between the
cities by approximately three hours. Approval was specifically granted for the
7.1-kilometer stretch passing through Chittoor Forest Division and Rayala
Elephant Reserve, with strict adherence to guidelines. The project must deposit
funds for wildlife conservation and allocate 2% of the cost for elephant
habitat conservation.
