The Union government has accelerated the construction of the Kolkata-Bangkok highway, a key component of the BIMSTEC project spanning 2,800 kilometers. The ambitious initiative aims to enhance connectivity among major Asian cities. With a section in Thailand already completed, the Tamu to Kalewa stretch in Myanmar is estimated to cost around US$27.28 million. The trilateral highway will significantly strengthen the links between India and Thailand, passing through cities like Sukhothai, Yangon, and Guwahati, before reaching Kolkata. This strategic project, expected to be finalized within the next three to four years, holds great promise for regional cooperation and improved connectivity in Asia.
