Indian Transport Ministry Plans Electric Highways for Economic Viability
India's Union Transport Ministry has revealed its strategy to develop electric highways, highlighting their economic feasibility. The ministry is currently working on the country's inaugural electric highway, connecting Delhi and Jaipur, according to Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari. He stressed the potential for the power ministry to supply electricity to government entities at a lower cost, aiming for a rate of Rs 3.50 per unit instead of the commercial rate of Rs 11 per unit. Private sector investors are encouraged to participate in the project, responsible for electric cable construction, while the NHAI will oversee an electric tariff system akin to tolls.
