Six bids to build nine flyovers and an underpass on SP Ring Road were authorised by the Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority (AUDA), the city's central planning agency. The price tag sums up to almost Rs 6.60 billion. This week, the public may expect to see the bids.

An underpass is proposed at the Ognaj junction, while flyovers will be constructed at the Sindhu Bhavan, Shilaj, and Tapovan intersections. An ADB loan that was authorised two years ago would be used to build the nine flyovers.

Senior AUDA engineers and others have raised concerns about the timeliness of the nine flyovers since bids for numerous flyovers have been merged.

Since only large companies can afford to compete when AUDA puts together building work for numerous flyovers in a single procurement. The bidding process will be skewed away from smaller construction companies.

One bid has been released for the Bakrol flyover and another for the combined Hathijan, Ramol, and Panjrapol flyover projects. Flyovers at the Dastan and Nikol interchanges will be built using a new, combined bid. Flyovers over the Shilaj and Sindhu Bhavan intersections, the Oganj underpass has been structured.
