The cost of the BMC's Goregaon Mulund Link Road project has increased by 28.7% over the last year and by 60.42% over the last three years. The estimated cost of the GMLR project is Rs 6,296.23 crore, with an escalation of Rs 60.42 crore. The estimated cost of the BMC's improved GMLR alignment, twin tunnels, and flyover in the budget for 2020–21 is Rs 6,296.23 crore. "During the pre-bid meeting, it was brought up that the tunnel needed to be fire-proof to reduce the number of casualties in the event of a fire occurrence. This alone increased the estimate by almost 450 crore rupees, the spokesman said.
