Chennai’s Anna Salai will soon have a Four-lane elevated corridor
In order to cut travel time, the Tamil Nadu Minister for Highways EV Velu announced on Tuesday that a four-lane elevated corridor will be constructed in the city that will cost around Rs 485 crore.
According to the State Highway Department’s Speed Delay Survey, it takes about 30 mins for a vehicle to cross the three-kilometer stretch on Anna Salai between Teynampet and Saidapet.
The new elevated corridor is said to have cut down the time of travel from 30 minutes to four minutes. The 3.2-kilometer-long corridor can support vehicular movement in both directions to carry more than 2.47 lakh vehicles a day. It will also allow vehicles to cross Eldam Road, SIET College, Nandanam, Cenopath Road as well as CIT Nagar with ease.
Mr. Velu announced the drafting of a detailed report for an elevated road from Light House to Guindy for Rs 45 lakh and a detailed feasibility report, for Rs 25 lakh, for the construction of a flyover on GST Road near the Officers Training Academy and a foot over bridge at Koyambedu. The highway department has suggested the construction of a flyover at Kattupakkam that will cost around Rs 322 crore.
The government is also planning to widen the Indian Railway’s bridge at Padi which will cost around Rs 100 crore and to establish escalators at four places across the city including Nelson Mancikam Road, Senthil Nagar Junction, at a cost of Rs 56 crores.
