In FY 2023-24, Union Road and Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari announced a provisional target of constructing approximately 13,800 km of National Highways, with 2,250 km already completed by June 2023. The road projects boast improved quality materials like high CBR soil, higher modulus bitumen, high-strength concrete, and steel. Over the past nine years, India's road network expanded by 59%, making it the world's second-largest, after the US. Gadkari praised the success of FASTag in toll collection, which saw revenue rise from Rs 4,770 crore in 2013-14 to Rs 41,342 crore in 2022-23. The central government aims to reach Rs 130,000 crore toll revenue by 2030.
