Railways to Spend Rs 13,000-cr on Station Upgrades
Under the Amrit Bharat scheme, the Railway Ministry plans to modernize
and redevelop approximately 1,300 railway stations at a cost of Rs 13,000
crore. While smaller stations will be upgraded within the year, the
redevelopment of all 1,275 stations on a priority basis will be carried out.
The project will be funded entirely through the Ministry's capital expenditure,
with land parcels around the stations being leased out to private players for
commercial development. The modernization plan includes better customer
amenities, improved accessibility, free Wi-Fi, kiosks for local products, and
executive lounges, among other things.
