Railways are focusing on station redesign and redevelopment.
The goal of the station redevelopment programme is to turn existing railway stations into city centres. The program's main goal is to provide passengers with cutting-edge amenities and an enhanced experience. Stations are being built as business centres where citizens can congregate and enjoy the atmosphere. The RLDA is a statutory body established to develop vacant railway land for commercial use. Its primary mandates include the commercial development of railroad surplus land, colony development, and the development of multifunctional complexes (MFCs).
The MoR has approved Rs 120 billion in funding for umbrella work to be carried out under the station redevelopment programme. As part of these overarching projects, approximately 46 stations have been redeveloped. EPC contracts for 27 stations have been awarded, and construction is currently underway.
