Kochi Metro Initiates Phase-III Extension with Potential Airport Partnership
The Kochi Metro Rail
Limited (KMRL) has commenced Phase-III of the metro rail project, starting with
an extension from Aluva to Kochi airport. To facilitate this expansion, KMRL
has enlisted the services of Delhi-based consultancy firm Urban Mass Transit Company
Limited (UMTC) for a detailed study. KMRL's Managing Director, Loknath Behera,
expressed interest in collaborating with Cochin International Airport Ltd
(CIAL) to leverage the benefits for both entities. The envisioned model
resembles the Paris Metro, allowing passengers to check in their luggage at the
metro station, streamlining travel and benefiting Kochi's residents, tourists,
and mitigating traffic congestion.
