Hospitality Veteran to Lead Portfolio Expansion

JK Urbanscapes has appointed Jayanta Das as President of its Hotel Division, effective September 1, 2026. The appointment comes as the company expands its hospitality portfolio across markets and hotel formats.

Das brings 33 years of experience with Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL), where he held senior leadership roles across hotel operations, business development and property expansion. He most recently served as Area Director and General Manager for Northeast India, Nepal and Bhutan.

At JK Urbanscapes, Das will oversee business development, hotel operations, revenue management, talent development, sustainability and stakeholder engagement.

Extensive Experience in Hotel Operations

Das joined IHCL in July 1993 and was appointed General Manager in 2013. During his career, he contributed to the opening and management of greenfield and brownfield hotels. His responsibilities covered business growth, guest experience, revenue management, operational performance and employee development.

He also worked on sustainable hospitality initiatives, community engagement and collaboration with stakeholders across the tourism and hospitality sectors.

Commenting on the appointment, Maneesh Mansingka, Joint Managing Director, JK Urbanscapes, said Das’s experience in hotel operations and team development would support the company’s growing hospitality portfolio.

“Hospitality is ultimately about getting the fundamentals right—the location, the product, the operations and the people behind it. As we build our presence across markets, Jayanta’s experience across these aspects of the business will be important to our approach,” he said.

Focus on People and Guest Experience

Jayanta Das said his focus would be on strengthening operations, developing talent and maintaining a clear understanding of guest expectations.

“Good hotels are built around strong operations, the right people, disciplined business practices and a close understanding of the guest. My focus will be to bring these together as we grow the business,” he said.

Das has also contributed to hospitality skill development. Working with state governments and Tata STRIVE, he helped establish training centres in Guwahati and Agartala to provide vocational education and employment opportunities for local youth.

He currently serves as Convenor of the Northeast Chapter of the Hotel Association of India and Chairman of the Hospitality and Tourism Committee of the CII Northeast Council for 2025–26. He was also associated with the drafting committee for the Assam Tourism Policy 2023.

Das holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and a Diploma in Hotel Management. He has completed leadership programs at IIM Ahmedabad, Nanyang Business School, Michigan Ross and the Tata Management Training Centre. He is also a certified HACCP Lead Auditor from BVQI.
