The Union government has undertaken ambitious connectivity projects in India's northeastern region, aimed at fostering development and accessibility. The road sector sees progress with 261 ongoing projects worth Rs 1,02,594 crore through various agencies, while the railway sector experiences advancements with 19 projects spanning 1909 km and an investment of Rs 81,941 crore. The Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS)-UDAN contributes to enhanced air travel accessibility, with operational airports in the North Eastern Region. Additionally, the North Eastern Council (NEC) has sanctioned 51 projects worth Rs 4,345.16 crore, focusing on rail, air, and road networks to promote growth in the region.
