Tamil Nadu Fast-Tracks Rs 7,272 Cr Intra-City River Linking Project

The Tamil Nadu government is hastening the Rs 7,272 crore intra-city river linking initiative, focusing on Cauvery-Vaigai-Gundar in Karur, Tiruchi, and Pudukottai districts. Land acquisition is in progress for the 118.45 km canal from Mayanur barrage to South Vellar, costing Rs. 6,941 crore. Currently, 237.97 hectares of the required 1,213.27 hectares have been acquired. The canal, carrying surplus Cauvery water, aims to irrigate 42,170 acres and supply water to 342 irrigation tanks across the three districts in the first phase.
