Haryana and Himachal Pradesh Explore Dam Construction to Manage Water Release
Haryana's Chief Minister, Manohar Lal Khattar, announced that both Haryana and Himachal Pradesh are actively considering the construction of a dam behind the Hathnikund Barrage in Yamunanagar district. The objective is to tackle concerns regarding excessive water release from the barrage, which has been linked to flooding in Delhi. Haryana refuted the allegations, emphasizing that the Hathnikund Barrage is not a dam and cannot retain heavy rainfall water. To foster better relations, Haryana pledged Rs 5 crore to the Himachal CM Relief Fund. Chief Minister Khattar also highlighted the potential benefits of legal mining in riverbeds to enhance water intake capacity and prevent floods in low-lying areas.
