There is a proposal to establish a mega-chemical industrial park near the Vadhavan port. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has announced the allocation of 2,500–5,000 acres of land for this project. This announcement comes at a time when Dahanu Taluka, where the port is being developed, was previously designated as an 'Ecologically Sensitive Area' under the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986.

Fadnavis stated that the state government has urged the Centre to grant approval for the project. Additionally, a special policy is being formulated to attract investment in the chemical sector, with an announcement expected in early November. He noted that the park would foster industrial growth, create employment opportunities, and strengthen the infrastructure surrounding the port.

Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertilisers J. P. Nadda stated that the central government would contribute ₹1,000 crore to the project, while the state government would provide ₹500 crore. The initiative aims to expand India's chemical industry, currently valued at approximately $220 billion, and support the sector's long-term growth objectives.
