₹5.71 Lakh Cr Cost Overrun Plagues 458 Indian Infrastructure Projects
According to the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI), 458 major infrastructure projects in India, initially budgeted at ₹27.58 lakh crore, now confront a staggering cost overrun of ₹5.71 lakh crore as of May 2024. This marks a substantial 20.70% increase from their original estimates. Among the 1,817 projects monitored, 831 are experiencing delays, underscoring pervasive challenges in project execution and management across the sector.
