Cabinet Greenlights Rs 20,773.70-cr Green Energy Corridor in Ladakh
The Union Cabinet has approved a Rs 20,773.70 crore, 713 km long Green Energy Corridor (GEC) Phase-II-Inter-State Transmission System (ISTS) for a 13 GW renewable energy project in Ladakh. This initiative involves the setup of transmission lines, including a 480 km HVDC line, and a five GW capacity HVDC terminal at Pangong (Ladakh) and Kaithal (Haryana). Powergrid will implement the project, which includes central financial assistance of Rs 8,309.48 crore. The corridor will connect to the Leh-Alusteng-Srinagar line, providing power to Jammu and Kashmir and contributing significantly to India's 500 GW non-fossil fuel electricity capacity target by 2030.
