To construct gas turbine power plants in North Chennai that can generate 2,000 megawatts (MW) of energy, Tangedco has begun a feasibility study. Both the unoccupied land in Ennore and the infrastructure of the natural gas pipeline system will be used. A feasibility study will be carried out by a consultant, and a thorough project report will be written. The Basin Bridge gas project, which has been on hold due to raw material costs, will be re-engineered in detail, according to the engineering consultant. The research calls for the construction of 18–20 MW small gas engine power plants, with a combined capacity of 2,000 MW. Tangedco intends to redesign the facility to use liquefied natural gas (LNG), which would enable power to be produced at a lower variable cost.
