West Bengal's Maritime Sector Holds Rs 1 Lakh Crore Investment Potential
Union Shipping Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has emphasized that West Bengal's port and logistics sector presents an immense investment opportunity of Rs 1 lakh crore, envisioning the state as a future maritime hub. With its profound maritime heritage, West Bengal has the potential to significantly contribute to India's economy. The maritime industry is a vital pillar of the Indian economy, accounting for over 90 percent of EXIM cargo volume and around 70 percent of its value. Notably, terminals operated through Public-Private Partnerships (PPP) play a pivotal role, overseeing roughly half of the cargo operations at major ports and thereby playing a crucial role in the sector's growth trajectory.
