Massive Concreting In Irrigation
Irrigation project in India can be dated back to as early as around 300 B.C. India is a very wealthy nation with many rivers and sub rivers. Still many parts of the country are suffering from the water demand and supply gap. Irrigation projects help bridge the gap. Many of these projects help irrigate lakhs of acres of agricultural land apart from being an important source of Hydel power. Irrigation projects are classified into major, medium and minor. The irrigation schemes are further divided into gravity/flow irrigation scheme and lift irrigation scheme.
Concreting with Schwing Stetter India
Schwing Stetter India has played a vital role in concreting many of the irrigation projects in India. Schwing Stetter India concreting equipment have been utilized for making a total volume of 14, 17, 20, 35 lakh m3 of concrete that is poured and produced for the major irrigation projects like Kaleshwaram lift irrigation scheme, Ghatghar roller compacted dam, Pratibha Modak sagar tunnel, Narmada canal, Saurashtra branch canal, Viatharna dam, etc.
Stetter horizontal batching plants like H3, H4, H5, H6 and Stetter compact and mobile batching CP 30, M1, M1.25, M2.25 were used to batch mix the concrete while Stetter truck mixers of 6 m3 capacity were used to transport the concrete to the location while Schwing truck mounted concrete boom pumps S43 SX and S36 X as well as Schwing stationary concrete pump BP 350 DXT, SP 1800 HDRL and heavy duty concrete pump SP 3500 HDR were used to place the concrete. Stetter truck mixers with flat belt conveyors were also used to place the concrete in case of bigger sized aggregates. Schwing shotcrete machines TSR 30.14 and BPN300 RE were used to shotcrete the tunnels that are part of the irrigation projects. Of late, Stetter self-loading mixers are being widely used to mix and place concrete for smaller canal projects.
Concreting Record Creation:
A sample case study: Polavaram is a multi-purpose irrigation project which is under construction. The project reservoir has live storage 75.2 TMCs at canal's full supply level of 41.15 metres (135 ft) MSL and gross storage of 194 TMCs thereby enabling irrigation of 2,320,000 acres (including stabilisation of existing irrigated lands). The major components of the Polavaram project are spillway, coffer dams (both upstream and downstream) are built to protect ECRF Dam (Earth Cum Rockfill Dam) from floods during construction and diaphragm wall.
Two numbers of Stetter batching plant H3N (Skip version) are being used by M/s. Navayuga Engineering Limited for the spillway channel construction and a concreting record production was done in 25 Hrs. of continuous operation producing 4260 cu.m of concrete (98.4 m3 / hr per plant) output between 10th - 11th June, 2018 using M20 grade of concrete with 6 m3 Stetter transit mixer. Stetter batching plants were also erected and commissioned in a record breaking 23 days ahead of the schedule
